Chinese Culture>> Alcoholic Drinks in China
What kind of beverages does a Chinese host serve at a formal meal?
In China, a host may serve three or four different types of beverages during a formal meal. Large glasses that are part of the table setting are for beer or light drinks; tiny glasses provided are for wine. The best known beer is Tsingtao, which is made with a mineral water; but locally brewed beers are found in all major cities. Beer has become popular and, particularly in summer, is demanded in many places. Imported wines have also gained acceptance. This has not only enriched the pleasure of drinking; it has also made the wine-drinking culture of the Chinese people more colorful.
